How I Stay Fit: Sarah Brown">
Sarah Brown is a very healthy woman. She is not only a fitness instructor at Goodlife where she teaches Body Pump, Body Flow and yoga, but she is also a registered holistic nutritionist, all of which begs the question, just how healthy are you, Sarah Brown?

Q: What is your workout routine?

A: I am one of 'those' people who enjoy an early morning work out, although I do not greet my 5 am alarm with a smile. I am a group fitness instructor at Goodlife, I teach 3 different Body Pump classes ( the original barbell class), Body Flow ( a blend of tai chi, yoga and pilates) and Yoga.
On top of my busy teaching schedule, which ranges form 6 - 8 classes per week, it is important for me to have my own exercise regime. This consists of hot yoga 1-2 times per week, as well as a daily adventure with my dog Mojo. My outings with Mojo range from brisk walks in the park to hiking on the Bruce Trail. Hiking is a great workout for the heart, legs and the mind (tune out the world and put your self into a meditation in motion).

Q: What does a snapshot of your diet look like?

A: Here's what I ate yesterday( all organic):
In the morning before teaching Body Pump:

- 1 large mug of hot water with lemon and ginger
- ½ of a granny smith apple
- 2 rice cakes

After class:
- ½ grapefruit
- 30 minutes later: a shake (2% yogurt, cranberries, fibre smart, hemp protein).

Lunch time:
- Salad with sprouts, pumpkin seeds, tomato, peppers, avocado, ground flax, fresh basil and lemon and flax oil for dressing
- bowl of tomato soup.

Afternoon snack:
- ½ of a Granny Smith apple
- Handful of almonds

Dinner:
- Lightly cooked vegetables with olive oil, quinoa, & spinach topped with a nutritional yeast and sunflower sauce.

Throughout the day I consume 2-3 litres of water and herbal tea, my current favourite is Rooibos Chai.

Q: Do you have any challenges regarding your workout ie. time constraints.

A: I have two muscle groups which challenge me the most - shoulder and biceps.
I am always on the go and pressed for time. Many years ago I got into the routine of early morning workouts so that no matter what else happens in a day I know I have taken care of myself.
